Education Workshops

Viking Long Boat - 3D Printed

This session begins with an exploration of Viking longboats, followed by an introduction to Tinkercad. Each child will receive their own login details and have the opportunity to use the app to start designing.

We’ll also demonstrate a working 3D printer and discuss how 3D printing is used in the modern world. Each child will choose a creature to feature on their Viking boat and spend time decorating a sail and shields by hand to personalise their design.

The final 3D print (approximately 10cm x 10cm x 10cm) will take time to produce and will be available for collection one week later.

Victorian Light Bulbs To LEDs

These workshops can run as two stand alone sessions or as one longer session with a short break in between.

Victorian Light Bulbs

This workshop starts by looking into the history of the light bulb and then moves onto learning about conductors and insulators, finishing by making an insulator/conductor light bulb tester, which the children can take home.

Light Emitting Diodes - LEDs

In this workshop we look at how LED's have developed and how they have revolutionised our use of light in products and what they mean for the environment.  The session finishes with each child making a mini LED squeeze on torch to take home.

Rockets!

Learning about forces including gravity and compressed air, we start this workshop in the studio.  The children then each make a paper rocket.  Once everyone is ready (weather dependent) we head down to the local park and test fly them - launching them using compressed air.

General Information For Educational Workshops

•Prices cover groups of up to 4 people. If you’d like to bring more, you can add extra participants for an additional cost—some workshops can accommodate up to 6 people and occasionally more, especially if booking for a larger group to run in a hall set up rather than at the Studio.

•Price includes all materials needed.
•Duration of workshops is only an estimate as it varies from one person/creation to the next, however we try to be as close to the finishing time as possible.

•Each workshops specifies a suitable age range that it is aimed at, but this can be flexible, so please ask when you get in touch if you have a group with mixed ages as we try to cater for this and if we can't we'll let you know.

•Due to the nature of Design Technology and the tools involved, parents and carers attendance and help are needed at all sessions for health and safety and will need to read and sign a consent form before children are allowed to start the workshop.

•Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds.
